Update 26th April 2023

UKCA Approval Update for SIEMENS products

At present, approximately 95% of SIEMENS products have received UKCA approval. While the government has extended its deadlines for compliance, SIEMENS still plan to prioritise obtaining approval for the remaining devices and aim to complete the process by the end of this year.

Update 1st March 2023

Further changes regarding UKCA Legislation

We announced back in July 2022 that a proposed alteration to the UKCA legislation would have permitted EU Notified Body ATEX Certificates to be used in lieu of UK Approved Body certification, concerning the application of the UKCA mark to a product ahead of the 1st January 2023 deadline.

This modification was quashed and at present, the amended deadline for UKCA marking, backed by full UKEX approvals, has been moved to 31 December 2024. Please note that in the meantime, CE marking, backed by ATEX approvals, will continue to be allowed in Great Britain.

Update 27th July 2022

There is a proposed amendment to the UKCA legislation, being circulated that has not yet been voted on by the UK Government. If the vote passes in the autumn, the legislation will be changed to allow EU Notified Body ATEX Certificates (aligning with UK Designated Standards) to be used in lieu of UK Approved Body certification.

Products that are currently ATEX approved or that have their ATEX approval completed before 31 st  December 2022 will be allowed to have this approval used as the basis for their UKCA marking, as required for applicable products sold into Great Britain from 1 st  January 2023.

Update 24th August 2021

Recognising the impact of the pandemic on businesses, the government will extend this deadline to 1 January 2023 to apply UKCA marks for certain products to demonstrate compliance with product safety regulations, rather than 1 January 2022.

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking is a new UK product marking that is used for goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland). It covers most goods which previously required the CE marking, known as ‘new approach’ goods.

The UKCA marking came into effect on 1 January 2021. However, to allow businesses time to adjust to the new requirements, businesses will still be able to use the CE marking until 1 January 2022 in most cases.

Process Instruments are working together with our suppliers to ensure products qualify with the new UKCA marking.
